Obviously, with bigger disks, this mod will only work if you also have larger wheels - remember, the calipers are not only going to be a greater distance from the hub, but they will also be 3mm further out. For example, this mod will not work with standard ST24 wheels, but should be fine with ST200 wheels. Most 17" wheels should also be okay.

The Ford Mondeo hit our roads in 1993, and has consistently been a sales success. Now on its 4th incarnation, it remains a drivers favourite.

Upgrading Brakes For Mk1 & Mk2 Mondeos

Background

The Mk3 Mondeo has 300mm 5-stud disk brakes, whereas the Mk1 and Mk2 disks are 260mm (4 Cylinder) and 278mm (V6) and 4-stud. However, the Focus ST170 has 300mm 4-stud disks, which will also fit the Mk1 and Mk2 Mondeos. The ST170 calipers are cast out of a single piece, unlike the Mk3 Mondeos, which are cast out of 2 pieces and can be found considerably cheaper. So it would make sense that you can upgrade your brakes to 300mm ST170 disks and Mk3 calipers.

Parts

2x Mk3 Mondeo Calipers 2x 300mm ST170 discs 4x 3mm spacers 4x Bolts for the calipers - must be at least 3mm longer than standard caliper bolts, and high tensile

Watch Out

Obviously, with bigger disks, this mod will only work if you also have larger wheels - remember, the calipers are not only going to be a greater distance from the hub, but they will also be 3mm further out. For example, this mod will not work with standard ST24 wheels, but should be fine with ST200 wheels. Most 17" wheels should also be okay.
