Overview Guide
Ford Model: Mondeo
Petrol/Diesel: ???
Estimated Cost: ???
Difficulty? ???
How long does this take? ???
  1. loosen jubilee clip on the intercooler U bend, prefebly the end which connects to the intercooler.
  2. take off the 10mm bolts which secure the intercooler
  3. remove intercooler, will pop out the turbo and you will need to disconnect U bend pipe from it.

Now to clean it:

  1. just turn it upside down and let the crap fall out...
  2. Blast the fins with a garden hose pipe.
  3. look inside the intercooler you may find oil, which means your turbo is leaking oil, now this isn't a good thing, however we are not driving eleventy billion BHP sport cars, therefore I ignored the issue and proceeded to clean.
  4. Pour a little bit of petrol into the intercooler, use palms on both ends and shake around, should loosen all the rubbish...Pour out somewhere suitable...Repeat process a few times
  5. Blast the insides with your garden hose, a lot of stubborn oil will come out
  6. Pour more petrol in, this will clear more oil & remove the water, repeat if needed a few times.
  7. Let the intercooler dry PROPERLY: IF A LOT OF WATER IS LEFT IN YOUR INTERCOOLER AND YOU TURN YOUR ENGINE ON, YOU WILL RISK DESTROYING YOUR ENGINE. WATER + ENGINE INTERNALS DO NOT MIX!
  8. Once you're satisfied that the intercooler is dry and that loads of petrol isn't around, you may use a hair dryer to be sure there are no fluids left.
  9. refit.

IF THERE IS ANY PETROL LEFT IN THE INTERCOOLER YOUR CAR WILL AUTOMATICALLY REV HIGHER THAN NORMAL AS ANOTHER FUEL HAS BEEN ADDED

IF A TINY BIT OF WATER, E.G. DROPLETS IS PRESENT THE ENGINE MAY PINK - MINE DID THIS I ALMOST SHAT MYSELF, HOWEVER MY MECHANIC MATE TOLD ME ITS PREIGNITION DETONATION OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT, I DON'T ENTIRELY REMEMBER

Results:

Car performs a hell lot better, pulls like a train all the way to 4k rpm, heat soak isn't as a big issue.
