The idea of bypassing the resonator is so you get a little better acceleration before the turbo kicks in. This has been done on a TDDI and 5 speed TDCI with no noticeable difference in sound. A cheap modification for a bit of happiness. the resonator is like an exhaust silencer and supposedly quietens the turbo but i noticed no difference

TDDI VERSION

Ok firstly this is the piece you are going to replace (in the red box on the picture). You need a straight piece of pipe with a 35mm internal diameter and the pipe must be 230mm long. I got mine off ebay for under a tenner in blue silicone, you could easily use normal rubber pipe if you wish.

Remove your airbox and the pipe connecting the airbox and the turbo.

Pictured below it shows the points where the pipe joins (red circles) at the turbo and at the other end of the pipework. all you need is either a flat blade screwdriver or a 6/7mm socket to undo the 2 jubilee clips 1 at either end.

once you removed the section in the first picture and removed the resonator and 2 small pieces of rubber pipe, put on your straight piece of pipe. below pictured is the end result.

TDCI 5 SPEED VERSION

Removal is the same as TDDI version, remove the jubilee clips either end and you get this when you take it out....

Next you need to cut the metal pipe as in picture below.

Finally this is the end result
