first you need to remove the  exhaust heatsheild and disconnect the brake cables to the rear wheels. its advised to put bricks or wheel chocks in front of and behind wheels to stop the car moving. its also advised to have the handbrake off obviously because it will make it so much easier to remove the cables. if you are still having difficulty its best to (if you have manual adjust handbrake cable) slacken off the manual adjuster to make it easier to release the 2 cables. just remember where it was so you can put it back to the correct place when you are done.

doing so means you dont need to pull the rubber bung out the floor and fiddle about with the cable. if i remember right you cant pull the cable up through the floor on the manual adjust type anyway so either way you will need to remove the cable off the handbrake lever so you may as well go with the instruction above.

The Ford Mondeo hit our roads in 1993, and has consistently been a sales success. Now on it's 4th incarnation, it remains a drivers favourite.

first you need to remove the exhaust heatsheild and disconnect the brake cables to the rear wheels. its advised to put bricks or wheel chocks in front of and behind wheels to stop the car moving. its also advised to have the handbrake off obviously because it will make it so much easier to remove the cables. if you are still having difficulty its best to (if you have manual adjust handbrake cable) slacken off the manual adjuster to make it easier to release the 2 cables. just remember where it was so you can put it back to the correct place when you are done.

centre console is next

remove the plastic panel either side of the centre console it has vents in it for footwell heating. 1 screw nearest the bulkhead then yank the panel off.

remove the gear gator and surround by taking off the gearknob and pulling it upwards and off.

under the centre console (the bit that surrounds radio heater etc) theres 2 screws in each corner tucked away.

remove the ashtray and cupholder next to handbrake by just pulling it up and take off the cigarette lighter wiring, you will see 1 screw here.

next open the arm rest and remove the foam pad in the bottom to reveal 3 bolt screws

now once its all undone providing youve released the handbrake cables you can lift the handbrake up high then lift out the console over it.

now back under the car undo the 4 bolts holding the handbrake to the body of the car theyre located under the exhaust heatsheild.

if your not renewing the cable on the handbrake and using the old one (perfectly fine to do so) just inspect the handbrake lever where the cable is and prize out the end of the cable with screwdriver.

doing so means you dont need to pull the rubber bung out the floor and fiddle about with the cable. if i remember right you cant pull the cable up through the floor on the manual adjust type anyway so either way you will need to remove the cable off the handbrake lever so you may as well go with the instruction above.

these instructions are for prefacelift but the screws etc should be in the same places on facelift. dont forget to disconnect the handbrake switch wiring.
