- loosen jubilee clip on the intercooler U bend, prefebly the end which connects to the intercooler.
- take off the 10mm bolts which secure the intercooler
- remove intercooler, will pop out the turbo and you will need to disconnect U bend pipe from it.
Now to clean it:
- just turn it upside down and let the crap fall out...
- Blast the fins with a garden hose pipe.
- look inside the intercooler you may find oil, which means your turbo is leaking oil, now this isn't a good thing, however we are not driving eleventy billion BHP sport cars, therefore I ignored the issue and proceeded to clean.
- Pour a little bit of petrol into the intercooler, use palms on both ends and shake around, should loosen all the rubbish...Pour out somewhere suitable...Repeat process a few times
- Blast the insides with your garden hose, a lot of stubborn oil will come out
- Pour more petrol in, this will clear more oil & remove the water, repeat if needed a few times.
- Let the intercooler dry PROPERLY: IF A LOT OF WATER IS LEFT IN YOUR INTERCOOLER AND YOU TURN YOUR ENGINE ON, YOU WILL RISK DESTROYING YOUR ENGINE. WATER + ENGINE INTERNALS DO NOT MIX!
- Once you're satisfied that the intercooler is dry and that loads of petrol isn't around, you may use a hair dryer to be sure there are no fluids left.
- refit.
