Switch - Door Ajar Repair - (Mondeo Mk1/2)

This is quite a common problem on MK1 and early MK2s approx up to a build date of 01/97, after this the ajar switches where moved to the latches on the 'B' pillars.
If your alarm or deadlocking is not working or on higher spec models if your door open warning light is lit continuously on the aux warning display then a broken door ajar switch will be the fault.
To get to the switch you need to remove the complete lock and door handle assembly which is quite easy.
1) Remove the door card and peel back the foam liner.
2) Remove the two bolts holding the inner to outer door handle assemblies (8mm socket)
3) Remove the three screws on the edge of the door holding the latch assembly in place, also remove the single screw above these which holds the plastic shield around the door lock in position.
4) Unclip the operating cable from the interior door pull handle.
5) Unplug the four wiring plugs and remove the motor/ door handle assembly.
You will be left with this:
The door ajar switch is the white component clipped into the rear of the latch, imagine it sat in the door, thats why you need to remove the whole assembly to get to the switch:
In this case as soon as I removed the switch it was obviously broken as the plunger was at a bent angle:
Sure enough when I removed the rubber boot the plunger had snapped:
Ford will relieve you of £30 for a new one, part number is 93BG 14018 BA. Better to get one from a scrapyard or Ebay, even if you have to buy the whole locking motor assembly it will be cheaper.
Simply clip the new switch in and replace the locking motor in the door.
