Superchip - Fitting

From what I have been told, there are two types of Superchip for the Mondeo - a v2 chip and a v5 chip. This version must be compatible with the version on the ECU, which is indicated by the 4-character code. A v2 chip can be converted to a v5 chip quite simply. However, a v5 chip cannot be converted back to a v2 chip. You should be aware of this before buying a secondhand Superchip...
Fitting
Fitting is easy to do yourself, but the chip must be preprogrammed to work with your ECU.
Find the ECU - on a Mk1 it is tucked away in the driver's footwell, but the wiring loom connects via the engine bay, behind the power steering reservoir, which simply lifts out of the way. Then follow these steps:
Undo the bolt that secures the loom in the engine bay
Undo the bolt on the retaining bracket in the drivers footwell and carefully slide the ECU out
Remove the black plastic cover from the front edge of the ECU itself
The connecting terminal will be covered in yellow gunk which needs to be removed with a cotton bud or something similar
The terminal is also sprayed with lacquer, which will need to be scraped off carefully with a Stanley blade or something
The chip then connects to this terminal lug
Refit the ECU and bolt it back in
Like I say, the superchip will need to be programmed to work with your ECU before fitting. For this you will have to have the 4 character ECU code that is printed on a label on the unit (eg 'TAXI'). I had my unit reprogrammed at London Superchips in Uxbridge.
