Codes
Number denotes number of flashes
1 - One flash cycle: Driver air bag module squib resistance out of range
2 - Two flash cycle: Passenger air bag module squib resistance out of range
3 - Three flash cycle: Short to battery plus or ground in section of air bag squib circuit common to both driver and passenger air bag modules
4 - Four flash cycle: Safety belt buckle pretensioner(s) failure. Short to battery plus or ground in safety belt buckle pretensioner circuit(s)
5 - Five flash cycle: Driver side air bag module or circuits failure
6 - Six flash cycle: Passenger side air bag module or circuits failure
7 - Seven flash cycle: Driver side impact sensor or circuits failure
8 - Eight flash cycle: Passenger side impact sensor or circuits failure

Mondeo does not require bridging any pins to get code, if a fault is detected, SRS warning light will automatically flash fault code. Common Fault:
The airbag warning light flashing 4 times is a common fault on late Mk1 and all Mk2 mondeo's using the pyrotechnic pretensioners - especially if you have recently moved the position of one of the front seats. Turn the igntion off and allow the car to sit for 15 minutes. Underneath the front seat base, (access is best from the rear passenger footwells, with front seats furthest forward), you will find two cables wrapped in yellow sleeving. The yellow connector may have parted company with its other half - Even if it hasn't disconnect and reconnect it to ensure that it is secure. Move on to the passenger side and check the wiring there - whilst doing this ensure the cabling is slack and not badly routed resulting in it being pulled tight.

Fuse Box Locations:
Engine Bay Fusebox is located in the passenger side closest to the headlight and is accessed by releasing the spring clamp at the back.
Passenger Footwell Fusebox is located behind and to the right of the glovebox. Open the glovebox and tug towards the rear of the car to aid access. There is a small black pin on the right of the fusebox that needs to be pulled in the direction of the floor in order to release the box from its mounting.

Anti-Theft Alarm/Double Locking System Service Test Mode:
Note: Vehicles fitted with central/double locking and remote control but without anti-theft alarm will not emit any horn beeps. The test results will be indicated by hazard operation only. The anti-theft alarm/double locking Service Test Mode is designed to enable service personnel to trace faults easily. The service mode can be entered at any time providing the central locking system has not been activated. Operating any ajar switch or the bonnet switch 8 times within 10 seconds will activate the service mode.
Indications During the Service Test Mode:
1. Upon entering the Service Test Mode the alarm indicator LED will illuminate continuously and a number of horn beeps indicate the status of the system: 2. The first horn beep indicates activation of the service mode. 3. The second horn beep indicates that no fault has been recognised during any previous alarm system activations. 4. The third horn beep applies to interior scanning only and indicates that no fault has been recognised with the system during any previous interior scanning activations.
Each activation of a set/reset switch (located on the lock barrel of each front door) is indicated by one short horn beep. A correct central locking signal (status of the lock/unlock lines) is also indicated by one short horn beep. The second horn beep must occur within three seconds of the set/reset switch activation.— During the service mode an activation of any alarm sensor/switch will be indicated by a single short horn beep and/or a short hazard signal.— If there is no activation of any alarm sensor/switch for a period of 20 seconds, the system will exit the service mode (indicated by one short horn beep) and the alarm indicator LED will extinguish.
Service Test Mode Sequence:
Note: Make sure the central locking is working correctly and note that the test steps must be carried out within 20 seconds of each other to prevent the system automatically leaving the Service Test Mode. Should this occur, start the procedure again as described in Test 1 and continue with the diagnosis. If a vehicle is not fitted with an anti-theft alarm system, start the Service Test Mode at step two.
Test 1:
Make sure the ignition is switched off, the windows open and the vehicle is unlocked. Open the bonnet and operate the bonnet switch 8 times within 10 seconds. Does the alarm horn beep twice (vehicles fitted with perimeter alarm only) or three times (vehicles fitted with perimeter alarm and interior scanning)?
- YES: Close all the doors, the bonnet and the boot. GO to Test 3.
- NO: GO to Test 2.
Test 2: Open and close a door 8 times within 10 seconds (make sure that no other ajar switch has been operated within 10 seconds). Does the alarm horn beep twice (vehicles fitted with perimeter alarm only) or three times (vehicles fitted with perimeter alarm and interior scanning). Do all of the hazard hazards flash?
- YES: Close all the doors, the bonnet and the boot. GO to Test 3.
- NO:
o No first horn beep: + Inoperative horn + Inoperative bonnet switch. + Damaged bonnet switch circuit. + Damaged horn circuit. + Blown fuse(s). + Damaged ground circuit to the control module. + Damaged positive circuit to the control module.
o No second horn beep:
+ A failure is stored within the control module memory. Close all doors, the bonnet and the boot. GO to Test 3.
o Perimeter alarm with interior scanning only: No third horn beep
+ An interior scanning failure is stored within the control module memory. Close all doors, the bonnet and the boot. GO to Test 3.
o No hazard signals:—
+ Inoperative hazard relays.
+ Damaged hazard circuits.
+ Inoperative hazard.
+ Inoperative control module.
Test 3: Is the indicator LED illuminated constantly?
- YES: GO to Test 4 (vehicles fitted with anti-theft alarm).GO to Test 5 (vehicles without anti-theft alarm).
- NO:
o Inoperative indicator LED. o Damaged indicator LED circuit. o Damaged clock connector. o Inoperative control module.
Test 4: Switch the ignition on' and off'.Does the alarm horn beep once?
- YES: GO to Test 5.
- NO:
o Inoperative ignition switch. o Damaged ignition switch circuit. o Inoperative control module.
Test 5: Open all the doord, the boot and the bonnet (vehicles fitted with anti-theft alarm system only), one at a time.Does the alarm horn beep once for each door and bonnet?
- YES: GO to Test 6 (vehicles fitted with anti-theft alarm). GO to Test 7 (vehicles without).
- NO:
o Inoperative switch(es). o Damaged switch circuit(s). o Inoperative control module.
Test 6: Insert the key into the boot lock barrel and activate the anti-theft alarm inhibit switch (hold the boot door down momentarily before allowing it to open).Does the alarm horn beep once for the inhibit switch activation and once for the ajar switch activation?
- YES: GO to Test 7
- NO:
o Inoperative switch(es). o Damaged switch circuit(s). o Inoperative control module.
Test 7: Insert the key into the driver door and lock the vehicle. Does the horn beep twice and are all the doors and boot locked?
- YES: GO to Test 8.
- NO:
o No first horn beep: + Inoperative set/reset switch. + Inoperative set/reset switch circuit. o No second horn beep: + Inoperative central locking. + Inoperative central locking signal. + Central locking actautor operation too slow (must lock within three seconds of set switch activation). + Inoperative control module.
Test 8: Insert the key into the driver door and unlock the vehicle.Does the alarm horn beep twice?
- YES: GO to Test 9.
- NO
o :No first horn beep: + Inoperative set/reset switch. + Damaged set/reset switch circuit. + Inoperative control module. o No second horn beep: + Inoperative central locking. + Inoperative central locking signal. + Central locking actuator operation too slow (must lock within three seconds of set switch activation). + Inoperative control module.
Test 9: REPEAT Test 7 and Test 8 for the passenger door.
- GO to Test 10 (vehicle fitted with anti-theft alarm).
- GO to Test 12 (vehicles not fitted with anti-theft alarm).
Test 10: Disconnect the audio control unit. Does the alarm horn beep once?
- YES: GO to Test 11.
- NO:
o Inoperative audio control unit. o Damaged audio control circuit. o Inoperative control module. o Aftermarket audio unit fitted - Ensure alarm cable has been taken to ground
Test 11: Press one of the buttons on the remote control transmitter whilst aiming firstly at the driver door and then the passenger door remote control receiver.Does the alarm horn beep for every transmitter activation?
- YES: GO to Test 12.
- NO:
o Inoperative transmitter(s) or low transmitter battery level. o Inoperative receiver(s). o Damaged receiver circuit(s) or connectors o Stray IR light disturbing the infrared signal (e.g. other infrared light emitting devices). o Inoperative control module.
Test 12: Activate the double locking by inserting the key into either front door and turning the key firstly to the unlock position and then to the lock position within three seconds.Does the alarm horn beep to indicate the double locking set command?
- YES: GO to Test 13.
- NO:
o GO to Test 1 (vehicles fitted with anti-theft alarm). o GO to Test 2 (vehicles not fitted with anti-theft alarm).
Test 13: Attempt to open the doors using the interior door handles. Does either door open?
- YES:
o Mechanical failure on the double locking in the affected door. o Damaged double locking circuit
- NO:
o GO to Test 14 (vehicles fitted with anti-theft alarm and interior scanning). o GO to Test 15 (all other vehicles).
Test 14: Attempt to trigger an ultrasonic alarm by waving in the front and the rear of the vehicle interior, through the open windows.Does the alarm horn beep once when waving in the front area and once when waving in the rear area?
- YES: GO to Test 15.
- NO:
o Inoperative interior scanner sensor(s). o Damaged interior scanner circuit(s). o Inoperative control module.
Test 15: Allow approximately 20 seconds to elapse. Does the alarm horn beep once?
- YES: End of the Service Test Mode.
- NO: Check for damaged control module.

Infrared Programming Instructions:
- Put your key into the ignition and turn to position 1 (Radio). After approximately 10 seconds the red alarm control LED (next to the clock) should illuminate. As soon as it comes on remove the key from the ignition - the LED should remain lit.
- Point the remote's "eye" at one of the front door sensors and press the rear button until the light on the transmitter illuminates (Keep the button pressed)
- With the rear button held in press the front button 4 times then release both at the same time. The control lights in both clock and fob will flash 4 times to indicate programming complete.
- Turn the ignition back on to exit programming mode
Radio Frequency Programming Instructions:
- Insert the ignition key and turn from position II (Ignition) to position 0 (All off) and back four times within three seconds.
- Remove the ignition key. The locking control system is now in "learn mode" for the next 20 seconds and the red warning system LED (By the clock) stays on continuously to indicate this.
- During the 20 seconds press one of the transmitter buttons. The remotes signal and code number is learned by the locking module and is indicated by flashing the warning system LED.
- Wait until learn mode times out (20 seconds) or switch the ignition back to ON.
