Power Steering Cooler Renewal
Tools required
- Longer the better 8mm ring spanner
- 10mm socket or spanner
- Large screwdriver
- Torx bit size T30
- Large empty container (ice cream tub will do)
- About an hour and a half of your time
Get Started
The easiest way I found to do this was to Jack the car up and support on axle stands, Remove the under tray, 3 10mm bolts underneath and 4 torx bits (2 on each side) under the bumper near the wheel
Remove the 3 plastic clips holding Cover
I used a medium flat bladed screwdriver then remove plastic cover, note how it slides under grill for when you re-fit it under that is a small plastic plate, I removed this just to give me a better view, just remove the 3 plastic clips and pull it free
Remove both screws
Prise the grill out carefully Using as long as possible 8mm spanner reach down behind where the grill was in front of the radiator about 6” down is a bolt, use a torch if you can’t see them, undo this (turning towards the passenger side) then do the one the other side.
When both bolts are removed then pull the cooler downwards
Using a decent set of pliers push the spring clips down the pipe
Get a large container to catch the fluid in then using the pliers push the pipes off (they come off fairly easy) Drain the fluid. When putting on the new cooler if you struggle with the spring clips then just use 2 jubilee clips Put the bolt in the passenger side of the cooler first, it’s just easier this way, and then fitting everything is a reversal of removal Then you need to refill the system, I recommend using new fluid on this not the stuff you have just collected in a container.
The system then needs bleeding, to do this start the car and slowly turn the wheels side to side.
